Polymer Brushes: New Developments and Perspectives in Experiment, Theory and Applications

Polymer Brushes: New Developments and Perspectives in Experiment, Theory and Applications

Virtual Meeting, October 11-13, 2021
www.brushes-dresden.de

We welcome you all to join the International Conference on Polymer Brushes: New Developments and Perspectives in Experiment, Theory and Applications to be held as Virtual Meeting, from October 11 - 13, 2021.

Polymer brushes composed of macromolecules grafted to a substrate represent a unique way to modify surface properties such as lubrication, tack, and adhesion. Typically, a thin polymer layer is obtained in the range of several ten to hundred nanometers for synthetic polymers and up to micrometers for biopolymers. Due to the unique feature of long flexible polymers, which combine liquid- and solid-state properties, such brush-layers form surface-bound liquid phases composed of the polymer and solvent, and may contain cosolvents, cosolutes, counter-ions and salt-ions and other molecules. Combing these properties in addition to polymer composition and architecture spawns a plethora of possible applications. On the other hand, the well-defined structure of the brush where each macromolecule is bound to the surface makes the system attractive for theoretical approaches and computer simulations. Challenges for ongoing and future research are the understanding of the roles of chain architecture, chemical sequences, electrostatic interactions, volume phase transitions induced by solvent mixtures, the step from macroscopic flat substrates to other geometries and non-equilibrium properties of brushes.

At the Polymer Brushes Conference, we will have a lecture session with invited and contributed talks and a poster session to share the most exciting results in this area. Meet the speakers and virtual coffee corners will provide opportunities for scientific exchange and discussion outside of the lecture and poster sessions. For more details on the main topics of the Polymer Brushes Conference, please refer to the website www.brushes-dresden.de.

Abstract Submission Deadline August 16, 2021

We now invite you to submit contributions from all disciplines and all countries that discuss various aspects in the field of polymer brushes. Please also forward this call for contributions to your group members. Abstracts must be submitted via e-mail no later than August 16, 2021.

We are looking forward to meeting you online!

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
