The SAR International Conference for Artistic Research gathers the cutting edge of practice-based research in art and design to debate the latest developments and explore forms of conviviality online and on-site. The Call for Contributions closes on November 12, 2021.
The conference consists of a 24-hour online event and three days of live on-site events in Weimar, Germany. The conference proposes three attractors to promote understanding of artistic research and stimulate new collaborative capacities and interdisciplinary scholarship:
MEND - What practices of grieving and repair can help us move forward?
BLEND - What new practices of interdisciplinary blending result from knowledge transfer in troubled times?
ATTEND - What would it take to recognize overlooked presence?
Proposing a research culture of »attending to«, we are interested in citational practices that swerve the cannon and recalibrate the gravitational pull of historical hierarchies in knowledge production. Within artistic research, there has been a strong tendency to cite disciplines outside the arts, prioritizing other legacies. What would it take to recognize overlooked presence? What kind of attention can be brought to the fragile, complex influences of artists, places, events and things that escape or have been denied citation? We call for radical attention to citational practices in artistic research.
Selection Criteria
The conference will feature state of the art presentations from a wide range of visual, media, and performing arts, music, design, craft, and hybrid disciplines.
• Contributions should be recognizable as excellent examples of artistic research and should reflect the discipline in provocative ways that invite critical reflection.
• We are specifically looking at how the research project critically responds to the criteria outlined in the Frascati Manual (i.e. novel, creative, uncertain, systematic, transferable and/or reproducible)
• We are looking for the role of sustainability, future-thinking and diversity in the contributions. Submissions from BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), persons with disabilities, and from LGBTQIA+ communities are especially encouraged.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
