Join us on November 5 for a lively evening filled with voices from the worlds of science and culture, happening at 6 pm at the Alte Feuerwache in Mannheim on US election night. Leading the evening's proceedings will be Professor Dr. Stefanie Schäfer, holder of the Chair of American Literary and Cultural Studies, along with Prof. Dr. Philipp Gassert, holder of the Chair of Contemporary History at the University of Mannheim. A panel of specialists from American studies, contemporary history, and political science will begin by analyzing the events and deliberate on possible future implications. Participants in the discussion panel include:
• Cultural scientist Prof. Dr. Henk de Berg (University of Sheffield)
• Specialist in American studies Dr. Isabel Kalous (University of Erlangen)
• Historian Prof. Dr. Ron Schlundt (University of Maryland)
Among the highlights of the evening is a science slam scheduled to begin at 7 pm. A quartet of scholars will showcase their findings on American political culture, infused with humor and charisma. Students representing the University of Mannheim will share their insights via posters and will be available for interactive discussions. And starting at 8pm, visitors can put their knowledge to the test in a pub quiz.
This event is hosted with support from the alumni association of the university, ABSOLVENTUM Mannheim, along with the Baden-Württemberg State Center for Political Education. It is co-organized by Dr. Ana-Sofia Uhl, who serves as the coordinator for International Cultural Studies at the University of Mannheim.
On November 6, from noon until 2 pm, David Sirakov of the Atlantic Academy Rhineland-Palatinate will provide an analysis of the election night events in room O 138 (FUCHS Festsaal) at the University of Mannheim. Live updates will be provided by students from Mannheim participating in an exchange semester in the United States. To shed more light on
