Conference on Battery Direct Recycling DRC

Direct recycling has the potential to play a key role in battery recycling in the future. As a complementary method to the more established recycling routes, direct recycling can contribute to the improved sustainability of the battery value chain and to enable the formation of a circular economy.

The first "Conference on Battery Direct Recycling" took place at the Congress Centrum CCW in Würzburg from 29 to 30 October 2024. More than 150 participants from research and industry travelled to Lower Franconia to exchange ideas on the direct recycling of batteries and thus contributed to the start of a direct recycling battery community.

This second edition of the conference looks to delve further into the many aspects of direct recycling through your contributions. This call for abstracts is looking for submissions related to the direct recycling of battery technologies in four thematic areas. For submissions that do not fit into one of these categories, please contact the scientific board.

1. Policy and Market
2. Direct Recycling Methods and Processes – Includes subtopics such as:
• Discharge and disassembly
• Delamination, deagglomeration and classification
• Regeneration and upgrading
• Reintegration of recovered materials (also as blends)
• Recovery and reuse of inactive materials
• Recycling of next-generation components and battery technologies
• Valorization of black mass using direct recycling processes
3. Sustainability and Digitalization – Includes subtopics such as:
• LCA, LCC, social LCA, …
• Digitalization and Automation of Direct Recycling processes
• Battery Passport
4. Design for Circularity – Includes the development and implementation of design strategies on both the cell and pack level to facilitate a circular value chain (Design for recycling, Design for Second Life, Design for X)

Contributions of both oral and poster presentations are welcome from researchers at all levels. Contributions will be selected by the conference board on the basis of the originality of the research, the level of results indicated in the abstract, and the relevance for the field of Direct Battery Recycling.

Deadlines for Abstract Submission:
Oral presentations: August 31, 2025. Notification of acceptance of oral presentations by mid-October.
Posters: August 31, 2025; November 30, 2025. Notification of acceptance by mid-October.
All posters submitted between September 1st and November 30, 2025 will be evaluated on the criteria as given above and will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until all spaces for posters are filled.

Please use the Abstract template provided in order to comply with GDPR regulations.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
