The 28th International Workshop on Kaposi’s Sarcoma Herpesvirus (KSHV) & Related Agents offers a premier platform for international researchers to exchange ideas, present new findings, and discuss emerging advances in KSHV research and related oncogenic herpesviruses. The workshop 2026 is organized by the Leibniz Institute of Virology in Hamburg with help of the University of Helsinki and Hannover Medical School and will be held at the Centre for Structure and Systems Biology (CSSB) in Hamburg.
Scientific Program
The scientific program will cover a broad spectrum of fundamental and translational topics, including virus–host interactions, viral replication and latency, immune responses and immune evasion, mechanisms of pathogenesis, and recent progress in clinical management and therapeutic strategies. The opening day will feature a dedicated session on current clinical and translational challenges, underscoring the importance of integrating basic research with patient-oriented outcomes. In addition to KSHV, the workshop will highlight findings on related herpesviruses such as herpesvirus saimiri (HVS), murine herpesvirus-68 (MHV-68), and rhesus rhadinovirus (RRV), which serve as essential model systems for understanding conserved mechanisms of latency, immune evasion, and oncogenesis across the rhadinovirus family.
Social Program
Complementing the scientific program, a special social event will take place on June 30, featuring a charter boat tour through Hamburg Harbour, followed by a gala dinner at Café Alte Liebe, located within the historic Maritime Museum in the heart of HafenCity. This evening offers a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues in a relaxed and inspiring setting.

A Long-Standing Tradition
For over a quarter of a century, the KSHV Workshop has served as a vital forum for scientific exchange and networking among researchers and clinicians worldwide. Since its inception in 1998, 27 annual meetings have brought together experts from academia, industry, and clinical medicine. Attendance typically ranges from 100 to 184 participants, with joint sessions co-organized with the EBV Association reaching up to 444 attendees.
