Die Lebensführung und die Alltagsversorgung als Aufgabe der privaten Haushalte sind untrennbar mit der Rolle der Verbraucher:in verbunden. Viele Schnittstellen zwischen Individuum und Gesellschaft sind konsumförmig geprägt. Da die reproduktive Arbeit des Alltags nach wie vor weit überwiegend von Frauen übernommen wird, ist ein geschlechterdifferenzierender Blick auf die Rolle der Verbraucher:in aufschlussreich, um die gesellschaftliche Organisation der Daseinsvorsorge zu erfassen.
