Elektrotechnisches Kolloquium

Referent: Prof. Dr. Zlatko Trajanoski, University of Technology, Graz;
Thema: "Functional genomics of mammalian models of complex diseases"

Disease phenotypes arise from complex interactions of organisms with their environments. While we have a long history of associating genes and gene defects with a large array of diseases, a growing body of data suggests that many disease phenotypes arise from gene-gene interactions and the interactions of genes with their environments - including the genetic background in which those genes are expressed. With the sequencing of the human genome and the genomes of model organisms, and the development of high-throughput technologies, we have now for the first time the means to dissect complex phenotypes and develop novel diagnostic, prognostic, therapeutic, and preventive strategies. While the principles underlying high-throughput technologies (e.g. cDNA microarrays) are relatively simple, the challenges associated with examining thousands of date points, and of presenting those data in a usable form are substantial. Further, the true value of the data lies not in the results of any single study, but rather, in examining correlations across multiple study groups and organisms. Developing an accurate interpretation of the generated data requires genomic information management systems capable of effectively capturing the data as well as tools to make that data accessible to the clinician. In this talk current trends and future challenges associated with the generation, management, storage, and analysis of high-throughput data will be highlighted with special emphasis on mammalian models of complex diseases.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
