Wie kann man Pflanzen züchten, die resistent gegen Pilzbefall sind? Eine Antwort auf diese Frage gibt die Grundlagenforschung. Man weiß inzwischen, dass Resistenz gegen Pilze angeboren ist und durch sogenannte Resistenzgene vermittelt wird. Wie aber gelingt es Pilzen, eine Pflanze erfolgreich zu besiedeln und sich dort zu vermehren (Kompatibilität)? Dem Prinzip von Resistenz und Kompatibilität geht R. Kahmann molekulargenetisch auf den Grund. In ihrem Vortrag stellt sie ein Modellsystem vor, in dem die komplexe Kommunikation von Pilz und Pflanze am Beispiel des Maisbeulenbrand-Erregers gezeigt wird.
