Einsteins Arbeit zum photoelektrischen Effekt, die er selber als revolutionär bezeichnete, führte zum Nobelpreis für Physik 1921 und gilt als Meilenstein bei der Entwicklung der Quantentheorie. Diese Theorie ist für die Beschreibung unserer Welt im Mikroskopischen unabdingbar und spielt insbesondere bei der Verkleinerung der Mikroelektronik eine wachsende Rolle. Der Vortrag zeigt, dass die moderne Nanoelektronik echte Quantensprünge aufweist und eine Spielwiese für Anwendungen der Quantenmechanik ist.
