How do the elderly or the informal carers arrange care provision in different European countries? What about support for the informal carers? How does this influence social integration? These questions are in the focus of the international symposium. At the conference conceptual approaches and empirical findings of a comparative study in five European countries on care arrangements and social integration of the EU-project "CARMA" will be presented and discussed. The EU-project "CARMA" studies processes of marginalization in old age and in addition analyses and assesses country-specific elderly care approaches by their capacity to counteract these processes. Findings of further projects about the situation of older informal carers, the role of support systems for informal carers and the interplay of private care and welfare state support extend the perspectives. Finally the findings will be discussed by social policy actors.
