Rund 70.000 m2 Nutzfläche wird das neue Shopping-Center haben, das die Karstadt-Quelle AG am nördlichen Rand der Essener Innenstadt errichtet. Baubeginn war im April 2006.
Neben dem CentrO in Oberhausen, dem Rhein-Ruhr-Zentrum in Mülheim, dem Ruhrpark in Bochum und weiteren geplanten Einkaufszentren in Duisburg und Dortmund entsteht bis voraussichtlich 2009 ein neuer Einkaufs- und Konsumtempel.
Im Rahmen der Tagung werden mit Befürwortern und Kritikern die Fragen diskutiert, wie das Projekt das Gesicht des Essener Einzelhandels verändern wird, welche Bedeutung es für die Entwicklung der gesamten Innenstadt haben wird und welche Konkurrenzsituation zu den umliegenden Zentren entsteht.
