Eine weitere Problematik, die eine realitätsnahe und damit termingerechte Produktionsplanung verhindert, besteht in der mangelhaften Datenbasis der Planzeiten und der Auftragsfortschrittsdaten. Erfahrungen zeigen, dass in vielen Unternehmen erhebliche Potenziale bezüglich der Durchlaufzeiten und der Termintreue bestehen, Verbesserungen von über 20% sind hier nicht selten.
Im Seminar "Produktionsplanung und -steuerung", das das WZLforum an der RWTH Aachen in Kooperation mit dem Lehrstuhl für Produktionssystematik des Werkzeugmaschinenlabors (WZL) der RWTH Aachen und dem Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT am 18. September 2007 in Aachen veranstaltet, werden Grundkenntnisse, Methoden und Systeme der Produktionsplanung und -steuerung diskutiert, um den Teilnehmern praktische Ansatzpunkte für die Produktionsoptimierung zu vermitteln.
