Der frühere finnische Staatspräsident (12 Jahre in diesem Amt), S. E. Dr. Dr. h.c. Mauno Koivisto und seine Frau folgen der Einladung von Prof. Dr. Jens E. Olesen, Lehrstuhl für Nordische Geschichte. Altpräsident Koivisto hält am 5. November 1999 in der Aula um 14.00 Uhr (s.t.!) einen Gastvortrag über »Finnland und der Ostseeraum«. Nach dem Vortrag gibt es von etwa 15.30 bis 17.00 Uhr einen Empfang im Concilsaal der Universität.
Vor seinem Besuch an der Universität trägt sich Dr. Koivisto im Rathaus in das Goldene Buch der Hansestadt Greifswald ein
