Thema des Vortrags ist die Neurobiologie des Mentalen am Beispiel der Willensfreiheit. Es wird veranschaulicht, dass durch die neurobiologische Eroberung der Zeit und durch zukunftsbezogene Erkenntnisbildung Intentionalität, Wille und Freiheit als final strukturierte biologische Leistungen höherer Lebewesen entstehen. Rein kausale Begrifflichkeiten sind aus empirisch-lebenswissenschaftlicher Perspektive für die Beschreibung solcher Phänomene unzureichend und müssen auch neurobiologisch durch teleologische, finale Begriffe ergänzt werden.
Prof. Dr. med. Ludger Tebartz van Elst ist Leiter der Sektion Experimentelle Neuropsychiatrie und Sprecher des Süddeutschen Brain Imaging Centers an der Universitätsklinik Freiburg im Brsg.
