Steffen Jacobs wurde 1968 in Düsseldorf geboren und lebt seit 1987 in Berlin. Seine drei Gedicht- und zwei Essaybände wurden unter anderem mit dem Hugo-Ball-Förderpreis, dem Kunstpreis Berlin/Förderungspreis Literatur und dem New-York-Stipendium zum Kranichsteiner Literaturpreis ausgezeichnet. Seit 2007 ist er Mitglied der Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur.
Jacobs hat mehrere Lyrikanthologien herausgegeben, von denen "Die komischen Deutschen" die bekannteste ist. Außerdem übersetzte er Romane von Philip Larkin, Kinglsey Amis und Kyril Bonfiglioli.
