Drei Tage lang steht Freiburg im Mittelpunkt der Grundlagenforschung in der Informatik: Das International Symposium on Theoretical Aspects of Computer Science (STACS) findet zum 26. Mal statt und ist dieses Jahr zu Gast an der Universität Freiburg:
Vom 26. bis 28. Februar 2009 finden die Fachvorträge
von Donnerstag ab 8 Uhr, Freitag und Samstag jeweils ab 9 Uhr
an der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg statt,

Organisiert wird STACS 2009, das abwechselnd in Deutschland und Frankreich ausgerichtet wird, von der Arbeitsgruppe für Algorithmen und Komplexität unter der Leitung von Professor Dr. Susanne Albers.
Die internationale Tagung, die das gesamte Themenspektrum der theoretischen Informatik abdeckt, dient dem weltweiten Austausch neuester Forschungsergebnisse aus den Gebieten der Algorithmen und der Komplexitätstheorie. Erwartet werden über 100 Teilnehmer aus 18 Ländern. Insgesamt finden auf der STACS 2009 über 50 Fachvorträge statt. Unter anderem wird Professor Dr. Monika Henzinger, Forschungsdirektorin bei Google, einen Vortrag über "Algorithms Research on the Web" halten.
