Einer der großen Trends in der Entwicklung von Computersystemen ist das pervasive (durchdringende) und ubiquitäre (allgegenwärtige) Computing. Die Computer im pervasiven und ubiquitären Computing sind unter anderem eingebettet in Plastikkarten, Schlüsseln, Messgeräten und Kontrollschranken. Ihre Funktionsweise soll den Endanwender im Alltag unterstützen. Embedded Security befasst sich mit der Informationssicherheit von eingebetteten Systemen. Zu sicherheitsrelevanten eingebetteten Systemen zählen Chipkarten- und RFID-Systeme wie auch hoch komplexe IT-Netzwerke im Automobil oder in der Infrastruktur.
Der Workshop thematisiert den Stand der technischen Sicherheit bei Smart Devices sowie in RFID-Systemen, neuere abgestufte Anforderungen an kryptographische Module, aktuelle Entwicklungen bei der Softwareentwicklung und der Zufallszahlengenerierung in eingebetteten Systemen sowie zukünftige sicherheitsrelevante Anwendungen am Beispiel des Smart Metering und automobiler Kommunikationsnetze.
