Im Konzertsaal des Konservatoriums Cottbus erklingen unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Tibor Istvánffy Werke von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven und Jean Sibelius. Solist ist Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Glemser.
Das Collegium musicum wurde im Wintersemester 1998/99 als akademisches Hochschulorchester gemeinsam mit der BTU Cottbus gegründet. Die Initiatoren dieses Klangkörpers sind Prof. Dr. Gnauck, Lehrstuhlinhaber an der BTU, als Konzertmeister sowie der damalige Gründungsdekan des Fachbereichs Musikpädagogik der Hochschule Lausitz, Prof. Dr. Istvánffy, als Dirigent.
Seit dem Wintersemester 2001 ist das Orchester am Fachbereich Musikpädagogik der Hochschule Lausitz beheimatet. Es steht weiterhin unter Leitung seines Gründungsdirigenten, Prof. Dr. Istvánffy.
