Teaching methods
The course contains introductory lectures, computer
classes, individual consultation and two assignments.

o Modern epidemiological methods for infectious diseases
o Outbreak investigation and surveillance
o Mathematical modelling
o Health economical evaluations
o Vaccinations
o (Re)-emerging infections: tuberculosis, measles,norovirus
o Antibiotic resistance and nosocomial infections
o STIs including HIV/AIDS, HPV infection, viral hepatitis
o Tropical diseases: dengue, chikungunya as a challenge in densely populated urban areas
Certificate
All participants who successfully complete the
programme will be awarded a certificate issued by
the School of Public Health, University of Bielefeld, to
be used for further qualification in infectious diseases,
epidemiology or public health. In addition a certificate
for 3 ECTS points can be issued.
The IDE programme is certified by the Ärztekammer
Westfalen-Lippe for continuing education.

Enrolment is open for
o Professionals in health departments, other health agencies and industry, and allied health professionals like physicians, microbiologists and epidemiologists
o Public Health experts and Public Health students including PhD and MSC students.
Prerequisites
A diploma (Bachelor or Master) in health related sciences or M.D., and basic knowledge in epidemiology.
Tuition
The tuition of enrolment for the International Summer School is 520/290 Euro. Postgraduate or doctoral students pay the lower price. The tuition includes
instruction, course materials, and the use of computer centre facilities.
Application
The number of participants is restricted to 30 persons.
