Die Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina ist die älteste ununterbrochen existierende natur-wissenschaftlich-medizinische Akademie der Welt mit einer über 355-jährigen Tradition und mit mehr als 1300 Mitgliedern in aller Welt. Seit 2008 ist sie Deutschlands Nationale Akademie der Wissenschaften. Hiermit verbunden ist die wissenschaftsbasierte Politik- und Gesellschaftsberatung sowie die internationale Repräsentanz der Wissenschaft in den Gremien, in denen vorwiegend Nationale Akademien tätig sind.
