Unemployment Dynamics during Recessions and Recoveries
Germany has done comparatively well during the recent recession, and its unemployment rate has actually decreased. International Monetary Fund (IMF) senior economist Ravi Balakrishnan gives a profound look at the IMF’s World Economic Outlook 2010 (WEO) and addresses several key questions related to recent unemployment dynamics. This includes explanations for the great variation in unemployment responses across major economies, the prospects for recovery, and an analysis of Germany’s recent positive performance. Additionally, the IMF’s recent GDP growth forecast will be presented.
The World Economic Outlook (WEO) gives analysis and projections of economic developments at the global level, in major country groups (classified by region, stage of development, etc.), and in many individual countries. It focuses on major economic policy issues as well as on the analysis of economic developments and prospects.
