How does it emerge, function and decay – for example in the case of religion and comparable belief systems? When, how and whereby do ‘interpretations’ prove to have ‘power’? This requires a clarification of what ‘interpretation’ is, how it operates in conjunction with power and how claims to power coincide with interpretations of identity and difference/alterity. That is why investigations in the theory of power and in hermeneutics are necessary: a) concerning significant historical examples and b) concerning the theories of power and interpretation themselves.
