Die katastrophalen Folgen des Erdbebens in Japan machen überdeutlich, wie verletzbar eine hochgradig technisierte Industriegesellschaft ist. Große Unglücksfälle und die Vernichtung ganzer Städte und Landstriche gibt es jedoch nicht erst seit der Neuzeit. In der Ringvorlesung „Selbstgemachte Katastrophen? Naturvergessenheit und Verletzbarkeit technischer Kulturen“ werden Unglücke aus verschiedenen Epochen dargestellt und verglichen.
Die Auftaktveranstaltung ist am 26. April 2011 – dem 25. Jahrestag des Reaktorunglücks von Tschernobyl.
