Die Transplantationszahlen im Jahre 2010 sind nur geringfügig gestiegen. 12.000 Menschen stehen auf der Warteliste, 4.817 Organe wurden 2010 transplantiert. Die Zahl der Organspender in Deutschland ist nach wie vor zu gering.
Im Jahr 2010 wurden 385 Herzen transplantiert. Der Einsatz von VAD Systemen nimmt an Bedeutung zu. Für viele Patienten ist er der einzige Weg, die Wartezeit auf ein Spenderherz zu überbrücken.
