World Resources Forum 2011

The World Resources Forum WRF 2011 taking place from 19 to 21 September in Davos, Switzerland, focuses on a pressing problem: the way we manage our natural resources does not fit our needs in the long run.

How is resource use connected to economic growth? Can we manage resources sustainably? How can we reduce exploitation and increase resource productivity? How can we distribute resources fairly and globally between generations? Which lifestyles, consumption and production patterns can we afford on a global level? How can we maintain the life sustaining ecosystem services at the same time? What would a Green Economy look like?

The WRF aims at being the platform for finding and communicating answers to these urgent questions. And in the lead up to the Earth Summit 2012 in Rio de Janeiro the World Resources Forum will contribute with discussions.

Shaping the Future of Natural Resources – Towards a Green Economy

Renowned speakers such as Doris Leuthard, Federal Councillor and Swiss Minister for the Environment, Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Ernst Ulrich von Weizsaecker, Mohan Munasinghe and Marina Fischer-Kowalski, Members of UNEP’s Resource Panel, Janez Potocnik, European Commissioner for the Environment, Ashok Koshla, Co-President of the Club of Rome, Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director European Environment Agency, and many others will present their considerations.

The WRF is an initiative of Empa; among the partners are UNEP’s Resource Panel, the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment FOEN, the Federal Environment Agency Germany UBA, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO as well as the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW).
