„Zivilgesellschaft“ soll im weiten und engen Sinn thematisiert und in einen Bezug zum Sport gestellt werden.
Im weiten Sinn ist „Zivilgesellschaft“ synonym mit „Öffentlichkeit“, akzentuiert dabei aber den umstrittenen/umkämpften Charakter von Öffentlichkeit – also etwa Öffentlichkeit und „Interessen“ (Habermas) oder „Hegemonie“ (Gramsci).
Zivilgesellschaft i.e.S. ist ein Titel für die nicht staatlich organisierten Formen von Öffentlichkeit, also etwa NGOs, Medien, Bürgerschafts-Engagement und WikiLeaks.
