They might be nanostructured or hierarchically built-up, they could be bio-inspired and possess functional elements ranging from single molecules to the macro-scale. All those materials and their design and development has to be accompanied by high-resolution analytical tools that are able to characterize the materials on all scales and, moreover,
to track and reveal their function-structure relations in situ.
The symposium will bring together experts in the field of intelligent materials in order to present and discuss recent developments and detect future trends.
The symposium will be a forum to get in contact with international key researchers and stimulate new collaborations for developing novel intelligent material systems, characterizing their functionality from molecular mechanisms to applications.
Topics addressed in this symposium will include, but are not limited to:
• New intelligent materials
• Smart materials
• Multiferroics
• Multifunctional composites
• Biofunctional materials
• Bio-inspired materials
• Switchable molecules and surfaces
• Microstructural characterization of intelligent materials and
correlation with their functional properties
• Theory and modeling of intelligent materials on different scales
• Applications of intelligent materials
• Integration into MEMS and NEMS
• Medical devices
• Biosensors
• Energy harvesting
• Information technology

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
