Postmodernism in Lithuanian Literature

Einladung zum Vortrag von Frau Dr. Vijolė Višomirskytė (Kaunas) zum Thema „Postmodernism in Lithuanian Literature“

The lecture focuses on the forms of ontological inquiry in Lithuanian literary texts written during the past two decades. They are discussed putting the concepts about postmodernist poetics characterised by Brian McHale (1987) into dialogue with the texts of different genres (poetry, novel, drama, literary anecdotes) by Aidas Marčėnas, Gintaras Beresnevičius, Marius Ivaškevičius and Valentinas Klimašauskas. The reflection of ontological questions and their aesthetic inquiry, according to Brian McHale (1987) are characteristic to postmodern literature, which probe these issues using several devices and strategies. The literary texts chosen for the discussion are characteristic of postmodernist irony and text-game aesthetics, which make them quite distinct from the texts written by other Lithuanian authors.
