Zum Auftakt der Vorlesungsreihe spricht am Montag, 21. Januar, der renommierte Krebsforscher und ehemalige Institutsleiter Prof. Dr. Bernd Groner über genetische Grundlagen der Krebsentstehung und neue Therapieansätze. Prof. Groner hat ein Signalmolekül entdeckt, das beim Wachstum und Überleben von Tumorzellen eine zentrale Rolle spielt. Seine Arbeitsgruppe am Georg-Speyer-Haus erforscht neue Strategien zur Hemmung dieses Signalmoleküls. Ausnahmsweise findet diese Vorlesung im Paul-Ehrlich-Hörsaal des Universitätsklinikums statt.
Die weiteren Vorlesungen zu den Themen "Stammzellen und Gentherapie" (28.01.), "Zelluläre Grundlagen der Immunologie" (04.02.), "HIV/Aids" (18.02.) und "Gentechnologie" (25.02.) beginnen jeweils montags um 17 Uhr im Hörsaal des Georg-Speyer-Hauses.
