Einen Schwerpunkt der Konferenz, die in diesem Jahr unter dem Motto „geo together – Geoinformatik verbinder“ durchgeführt wird, bildet die Nutzung offener und freier Geodaten insbesondere für OpenStreetMap-Anwendungen. „Aber auch spezifische Nutzergruppen in Wirtschaft, Behörden und Forschung sollen hier angesprochen werden“, erläutert der Geoinformatiker Prof. Dr. Alexander Zipf von der Universität Heidelberg. Das Veranstaltungsprogramm umfasst wissenschaftliche Beiträge sowie Technologie- und Anwendervorträge. Darüber hinaus wird es eine Fachausstellung und Posterpräsentationen geben. Den internationalen Einführungsvortrag in einer englischsprachigen Sektion hält Prof. Dr. Paul Longley vom University College London. Der Wissenschaftler wird über Soziale Medien als Infrastruktur für sozioökonomische Daten sprechen. Im deutschen Hauptvortrag wird es um „Open Data und Offene Geodaten in Deutschland im Umfeld von INSPIRE und Geodatenzugangsgesetz“ gehen. Referent ist Stefan Sandmann vom Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und Reaktorsicherheit.
Veranstalter sind die Abteilung Geoinformatik am Geographischen Institut der Ruperto Carola, die Gesellschaft für Geoinformatik, der Verein zur Förderung der Geoinformatik in Norddeutschland, das Netzwerk Geoinformation der Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar und die GIS-Station, das Klaus-Tschira-Kompetenzzentrum für digitale Geomedien.
