Mit den Augen sehen wir einen Fingernagel, das ist einfach. Optische Mikroskope mit 1000-facher Vergrößerung sind für rote Blutkörperchen und Bakterien geeignet. Mit speziellen Farbstoffen und drei-dimensionalen Bildersequenzen werden die verschiedenen Organellen in der Zelle unterscheiden. Für Viren wird Elektronenmikroskopie mit ihrer knapp millionenfacher Vergrößerung verwendet. So werden Viren anhand ihrer Eiweißhülle identifiziert. Wenn der Virus inaktiv ist, umschließt die Eiweißhülle die DNA – aber wenn der Virus eine Zelle angreift, wird die DNA freigesetzt.
Der Vortrag findet um 17:00 Uhr im Hörsaal des Instituts für Physik, Felix-Hausdorff-Straße 6, statt. Gäste sind herzlich willkommen.
