„The Rise and Promise of Molecular Machines based on the Mechanical Bond“ lautet der Titel seines Vortrages. Prof. Dr. Sir J. Fraser Stoddart forscht im Bereich der supramolekularen Chemie und arbeitet zu künstlichen sogenannten molekularen Maschinen. Gemeinsam mit Bernard L. Feringa und Jean‐Pierre Sauvage wurde er im Jahr 2016 zu Forschungen zu Design und Synthese molekularer Maschinen mit dem Nobelpreis für Chemie ausgezeichnet. Der 1942 geborene Stoddart ist Professor für Chemie an der Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, USA.
