The chemical and pharmaceutical industry is more and more lacking innovation, in terms of new elements, molecules, materials and blockbusters. Furthermore, speciality chemicals companies fear commoditization, due to high price pressure of new players as well as new and changing customer expectations - mostly driven by digital solutions from tech companies far out of the process industry.
The chemical industry has shown successfully the decoupling of energy input and production output – can the major players now lead us into an outcome-based economy, where production volume and revenue are decoupled?
