Abstract
Cherven Towns is one of the most important regions in the studies on the Polish-Rus borderland. The dispute about its nature has been going on since the 18th century. Two papers present the results of the German-Polish excavations. The discovered hoards of silver jewellery, devotional items, and other artefacts confirm that in the 11th-13th century this was a very important region. The data obtained enable a reliable reconstruction of the environmental conditions in the past. In the 13th century Chełm became the most important city. It was the seat of Daniel of Galicia, the impressive remains of which will be presented.
