IAMHIST is the International Association for Media and History, an organization of scholars, filmmakers, broadcasters and archivists dedicated to historical enquiry into film, radio, TV and other related media. It is a special concern to encourage and support early-career researchers. As well as organizing biennial conferences focusing on an aspect of media and history, IAMHIST organizes awards in the field of media and history, a yearly masterclass to support postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the field.
Its next twenty-ninth biennial conference will take place in Kiel, northern Germany. The conference theme this year is CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND THE MEDIA. It looks at historical perspectives on how media have helped to overcome problems and crises - including European integration, the end of Apartheid in South Africa, democratization after military dictatorships in South America or the empowerment of minorities. The conference will include cinema and 360-degree screenings, an exhibition (by scholars and artists from Volda University College, Norway), workshops, round-table discussions and an excursion (to a WW2 submarine and maritime memorial, see https://deutscher-marinebund.de/marine-ehrenmal-u-995/virtueller-rundgang). There will be two conference dinners, a buffet on a museum boat (https://salonmotorschiff-stadt-kiel.de/galerie) and at a local microbrewery, founded by former art students in Kiel (https://lillebraeu.de).
The conference is organized by Professor Tobias Hochscherf on behalf of the IAMHIST council.
