Almost two years on from the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine, the question of how to build back the Ukrainian science system becomes pressing. Immediate support rightly focused on researchers who had to flee. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation has been supporting almost 150 Ukrainian researchers who found academic shelter in Germany or decided to continue working in Ukraine. Moreover, as a member of the EU-funded MSCA4Ukraine Consortium the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is enabling 125 MSCA4Ukraine fellows to continue their research in 21 countries in Europe. After the implementation of these emergency support measures, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation wishes to move the debate to the question of long-term reconstruction efforts, while maintaining support to displaced researchers.
First steps were taken at the recently organised Online Networking Forum “HUMBOLDT4UKRAINE”: researchers from Ukraine, Germany, Czechia, USA and over 20 other countries discussed how best to support the future of an innovative Ukraine. Aiming to stimulate these discussions further, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation cordially invites you to a panel discussion where we will deliberate on what needs to be done to firmly place science at the heart of Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts.
Chaired by Prof. Robert Schlögl, president of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, experts who work in and outside of Ukraine will provide their insights on the current situation and needs, and explore what steps need to be taken to help rebuilding Ukraine’s science, research, and innovation system. These discussions form part of the broader context of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s efforts to harness relevant expertise within the Humboldt Network, the MSCA4Ukraine and Philipp Schwartz Communities, and of other parts of the Ukrainian academic diaspora, and offer valuable input for consideration in political decision-making processes.
The event is supported by Springer Nature.
