Additive Manufacturing (AM) complements traditional manufacturing by encompassing everything from idea conception to delivery, transforming workflows from the workbench to factory equipment. To fully harness its benefits, AM necessitates a new mindset regarding production. This shift is precisely what product designers, executives, and decision-makers gain at the Additive Academy® of the Fraunhofer Institute for Additive Production Technologies (IAPT).
*** Training Designed for Professionals ***
The Additive Academy® has successfully trained over 1,500 professionals across the aviation, automotive, mechanical engineering, and service sectors. Leveraging this extensive experience, we continually refine our training programs.
We offer four educational pathways tailored to specific industry roles, serving research and development teams, product designers, production personnel, and management. Each pathway equips participants with the targeted knowledge and skills necessary to excel and foster innovation within their product portfolios or explore new markets.
Participants start at their current level of understanding, building the AM expertise needed to tackle their unique challenges. Our close ties to industrial needs ensure the relevance and applicability of the courses, benefiting both individual roles and the organization as a whole.
Key Advantages:
- Hands-on experience to enhance practical skills
- Immediate feedback for clarity and guidance
- Team building and networking through collaboration
- Guided tours of the production facilities at Fraunhofer IAPT
This comprehensive approach empowers professionals to effectively integrate AM into their operations.

R&D Path
Designed for development departments in companies or research organizations focused on:
- Researching or developing new alloys, powders, processes, or related manufacturing aspects, including enhancing existing materials.
- Implementing new process steps before or after printing, such as automated design, simulation, data preparation, or automated post-processing.
- Developing new hardware systems and software methods.
Design Path
Targeting mechanical engineers, designers, product engineers, and business developers, this path emphasizes innovative, efficient solutions for new product development. By leveraging additive manufacturing, participants can create unique selling propositions in the market.
Production Path
This training is aimed at production managers, shift leaders, planners, data processors, logisticians, quality engineers, and safety professionals. Portions of this learning path are also suitable for machine operators and can be booked accordingly. The training supports the establishment of new additive production or its integration into existing processes, such as milling.
Management Path
This path equips shareholders, managing directors, directors, and production and design leaders with the insights necessary to evaluate and implement additive manufacturing within their organizations. The focus is on the economic and organizational aspects that ensure an efficient and effective transition to additive production.
This structured approach ensures that every participant gains the relevant knowledge and skills to successfully apply additive manufacturing in their respective roles.
Information on participating / attending:
All first- and second-level training sessions are available either onsite at the Fraunhofer IAPT Additive Academy® or through e-learning. Third-level training consists of bespoke sessions tailored specifically to the participants' tasks. The Additive Academy® coordinates training details in advance, allowing customer-specific data to be shared beforehand. Based on this information, our training team develops efficient and effective solutions. Onsite training requires a minimum of 5 participants and is capped at 10, with a maximum of 8 participants for consulting courses.
To effectively meet the needs of specific roles within a company, the Additive Academy offers four tailored learning paths. Each Basic Training addresses all four groups in parallel.
*** Costs for the AM Basic Training - ONSITE ***
899,00 EUR per participant
799,00 EUR per participant if two or more participants belong to the same company
AM Basic Trainings are also available as eLearning. For further information please follow the link below

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
