The COVID-19 pandemic brought mRNA technology to the forefront of global attention - a revolutionary drug class that enabled life-saving vaccines but also sparked public debate. As its vast potential becomes increasingly clear, reaching far beyond infectious diseases into cancer therapy, regenerative medicine, and more, one thing is certain: the future of precision medicine will be shaped by mRNA.
However, technological progress must go hand in hand with public trust, transparent dialogue, and an adaptive regulatory framework.
In this moderated panel discussion, leading voices from science, medicine, regulatory, and industry will explore the origins and future of mRNA medicines — and how to ensure that biomedical innovation truly serves society.
We are delighted to have the following distinguished panelists join us:
Prof. Katalin Karikó, Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, pioneer of mRNA technology
Prof. Leif Erik Sander, Head of Infectious Diseases and Critical Care Medicine, Charité
Dr. Christoph Conrad, Head of Regulatory Support Unit, BIH (formerly PEI, WHO, BMBF)
Dr. Patrick Baumhof, Senior Vice President Technology & Innovation, CureVac
The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Norman Drzeniek, Physician-scientist at Charité Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology and group of Experimental Immunotherapy @BIH
Following the screening of the documentary THE MESSENGER, which offers a fascinating look at the people and ideas behind the development of mRNA technology, we will have a moderated panel discussion with leading voices from science, medicine, regulation, and industry.
Join us and be inspired by insightful perspectives and an open exchange about the future of translational research.

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
