Die Emanzipation der Arbeiterklasse hatte für Marx stets Vorrang vor der der Nationen. Er war aber von der Überlegenheit der europäischen Gesellschaft über die nichteuropäische überzeugt. Und sein Internationalismus hinderte ihn nicht, Nationalismus und Krieg als Vehikel der Revolution gutzuheißen. Inwieweit war Marx' Zwiespältigkeit auch ein Charakteristikum des damaligen Europa der nationalen Machtstaaten und der industriellen Globalisierung?
