Lebendes Gewebe aus der Gehirnrinde von Mäusen: Nervenzellen sind grün, ihre Zellkerne blau dargestellt. Gibt man T-Zellen dazu, die auf die Zerstörung myelinbildender Zellen spezialisiert sind, sterben innerhalb von sechs Stunden auch Nervenzellen in signifikantem Ausmaß ab. Im Bild erscheinen sie rot oder gelb; die Pfeile zeigen auf die toten Nervenzellen.
