Partial view of the giant nebula (HII region) NGC 3603 with its central, 1 million year old compact starburst cluster. False-color image based on observations with the Wide Field/Planetary Camera 2 of the Hubble Space Telescope. The dominant green color signalizes light emitted as ionized hydrogen regains its missing electron ("recombination line H-alpha"). The field of view is about 160 arc seconds on each side. The image shape is due to the detector placement of the Wide Field/Planetary Camera.
