Transportzyklus: Der Import von Proteinen ins Peroxisom erfordert viele Komponenten. In der Zellflüssigkeit werden peroxisomale Proteine (rot, Kargoproteine) von dem Importrezeptor Pex5p (grün) erkannt und an die peroxisomale Membran dirigiert. Dort bilden Pex5P und weitere Proteine (gelb) eine Schleuse, durch die die Kargoproteine auf bislang unbekannte Weise in das Peroxisom transportiert werden. Enzyme (orange und gelb) markieren den Rezeptor anschließend mit Ubiquitin (Ub). Diese Markierung dient als Signal für die Export-Maschinerie (blau), die den Rezeptor aus der Membran löst. Gleichzeitig wird das Ubiqutin von dem neu entdeckten Enzym Ubp15p entfernt. Der Rezeptor steht nun für einen neuen Importzyklus zur Verfügung.
