Hinweisschild in Ruanda auf eine Exportfirma für wertvolle Mineralien aus dem Kongo. Kassiterit (Zinnstein) wird z.B. für Halbleiter, Katalysatoren, Legierungen und Verpackungen verwendet. Coltan – der Name steht für Columbit-Tantalit – kommt als Bestandteil von Kondensatoren in Mobiltelefonen, Computern, Digitalkameras u.a. zum Einsatz. Wolframit wird für Legierungen in der Automobil-, der Raumfahrt- und der Rüstungsindustrie benötigt und ist auch in Mikroelektroden enthalten.
