Anhand eines zweidimensionalen NMR-Spektrums (a) kann man die exakten Bindestellen zwischen SERF und amyloiden Proteinen bestimmen (hier durch Farbverschiebungen gekennzeichnet). Diese Bindung fördert letztendlich die Ausbildung amyloider Fibrillen (b; elektronenmikroskopische Aufnahme). Ähnliche amyloide Ablagerungen findet man z.B. in Nervenzellen von Parkinson- und AlzheimerpatientInnen.
