Hier wurden bestimmte Nervenzellen der Taufliege durch grüne Fluoreszenz sichtbar gemacht. Sie alle enthalten den Transmitter Dopamin, der auch im Gehirn des Menschen an Lernvorgängen beteiligt ist. In der Fliege verstärkt sich die Antwort dieser Zellen auf einen bestimmten Duft, wenn dieser zuvor mit einem Elektroschock gepaart wurde (assoziatives Lernen). Der rot markierte "Pilzkörper" im Fliegengehirn wird für das Lernen unterschiedlicher Düfte benötigt.
