Mit einer Unterbrechung von acht Jahren, in denen er Präsident der Universität Augsburg war, hat sich der Neuhistoriker Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Josef Becker über mehr als drei Jahrzehnte hinweg der Vor- und Nachgeschichte des Kriegs von 1870/71 gewidmet und die Ergebnisse dieser Forschungen nun auch im dritten und letzten Band einer rund 1900-seitigen Quellenedition vorgelegt.
