Bei diesen Metalloxidpartikeln handelt es sich um so genannte Einschlussverbindungen, die Batterien und Akkus sicherer machen: Lithium-Ionen sind in das Kristallgitter eines Metalloxids eingeschlossen, während die Elektronen im gesamten Partikel verteilt sind. So kann kein elementares Lithium mehr entstehen. Das ist brennbar und kann, wenn die Batterie beschädigt wird, andere Bestandteile der Batterie entzünden (Source: BASF - The Chemical Company 2009)
