Im Rahmen des fünftägigen Treffens besuchten die Experten aus Deutschland und China auch die Lebensräume des Dunklen und des Hellen Wiesenkopf-Ameisenbläulings (Maculinea nausithous und teleius) bei Altenburg. Diese Tagfalterarten sind bei Ihrer Fortpflanzung auf das Vorhandensein einer bestimmten Wirtspflanze (den Wiesenknopf) und einer bestimmten Ameisenart angewiesen. Diese Spezialisierung macht sie besonders empfindlich für Umweltveränderungen und führte dazu, dass beide inzwischen auf den Roten Listen gefährdeter Arten stehen. Der Helle Wiesenknopf-Ameisenbläuling steht in Thüringen inzwischen sogar kurz vor dem Aussterben.
