Beobachtete (rote Line) und simulierte Meereisbedeckung der Arktis für den Monat September in Millionen Quadratkilometern. Die dicke schwarze Linie repräsentiert den Ensemble Mittelwert von 13 IPCC AR4 Modellen während die gestrichelten Linien die Variationsbreite wiedergeben. Nach Stroeve et al. (2007) ergänzt mit Daten von 2008. Das Minimum für 2009 wurde kürzlich mit 5.1 Millionen Quadratkilometern berechnet und ist damit der drittkleinste aller bisher gemessenen Werte und liegt noch deutlich unter dem Worst-Case-Szenario des IPCC.
