Mycoplasma agalactiae in einer Kultur auf speziellem Agar-Medium: Die „Spiegelei-Form“ mit einem dichten Zentrum ist typisch für Mykoplasmen. Die gelblich-weißen Kolonien sind Mykoplasmen, die bestimmte Teile ihrer DNA wegen der Aktivität eines speziellen Enzyms – einer Rekombinase – verloren haben. Die blauen Kolonien enthalten Mykoplasmen, in denen das Rekombinase-Gen entfernt wurde, weshalb DNA nicht mehr auf diesem Weg verloren geht.
